How to search Facebook Marketplace nationwide
Marketplace is built around your location. That’s great for a quick local find, and frustrating when the thing you want is three states away.
Why Marketplace feels local
Every Marketplace search is tied to one location and one radius. The largest radius Facebook offers is 500 (miles in the US, kilometres in Canada), but a single very wide search tends to show mostly listings near its centre. It also leaves gaps at the edges, and the US is far wider than 1,000 miles.
Option 1: change your location by hand
- Open Marketplace and click your current location (shown near the top of the search results).
- Type a different city and choose a radius.
- Run your search, then repeat for the next city.
It works, but covering a whole country this way means dozens of edits, and it’s easy to miss an area or repeat one.
Option 2: let the tool build the searches
On the search page, type your keywords and pick a country or a set of states. The coverage optimiser picks Facebook’s own city locations so the circles overlap where people live. At 250 miles, about 17 searches cover 97% of Americans and 6 cover 96% of Canadians. Then open the tabs, five at a time.
Picking a radius
- 40–60 miles: sofas, appliances and anything you’ll pick up the same day.
- 100 miles: a good default for a state-wide hunt.
- 250 miles: rare or valuable items worth a road trip or shipping.
- 500 miles: the quickest rough sweep, with fewer tabs and less detail.
Shipping vs pickup
Many sellers offer shipping. Set Delivery to “Shipping only” to see items you can buy from anywhere without travelling. For pickups far away, agree the details in Messenger before you drive, and see our long-distance buying tips.
Keep your sanity with lots of tabs
- Open five at a time and close each one as you finish it.
- Save promising listings to your finds board as you go.
- Save the search. Next time, “New since…” shows only fresh listings.
